Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve the collapsing characteristic and reclamation of mold and reduce the decrease in strength and surface stability by adding collapsing agents to molding sand then adding water glass and keading the mixture and further adding acrylic acid base polymer and kneading the mixture.
CONSTITUTION: An aqueous solution of concentration about 5W60% of one or more kinds of collapsing agents such as styrene-maleic acid copolymer is added at about 0.5W30 parts to 100pts.wt. of molding sand and the mixture is kneaded. Thence, water glass of molar ratio 1.8W3.4, 34W54 Baume is added at about 0.5W10 parts and the mixture is kneaded, following to which the aqueous acrylic acid base polymer solution of concentration about 5W60% is added at about 0.5W10 parts, followed by kneading. The mold using this multilayer coated molding sand is suppressed of the moisture absorption of water glass owing to the action of the polymer of the outermost layer, resulting in the decreased bonding force among the sand particles. Even when this mold is put for a long time, there is no decrease in its strength and surface stability and the moldings of stable quality may be produced with good workability.
