Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce large-diameter thick-walled bent pipes through bending of ordinary methods by forming the wall thickness on the outer side of bending of a blank pipe to be bent larger than that of the inner side.
CONSTITUTION: A blank pipe P is fabricated to an inside diameter of d'=d-2c1. Thereafter, the inside diameter of the portion which receives bending is made eccentric and so fabricated that the wall thickness on the outer side of bending becomes t+c1 and that of the inner side of bending t-c2. The neck part n is so fabricated that its inside diameter d becomes d=D-2t. C1 is the thickness decreased by bending and C2 likewise the thickness increased by bending. Deviating the blank pipe P in wall thickness in this way and bending the same by ordinary methods enable the elbow E of an equal wall thickness over the entire part, i.e., thickness t to be produced. If the wall thicknesses are deviated, the rate of thickness reduction is smaller and the rate of thickness increase larger than those on bending of an equal thickness pipe, and therefore in the case of embodiment, C1 and C2 are determined by considering this. C1 and C2 may be readily calculated if the heating temperature at the fabrication and other bending conditions are determined.
