Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable exchange of developer without exerting adverse effect on a photoconductor drum, by swaying a casing to the position for permitting a sleeve to withdraw from the drum and discharging the developer by rotation of the sleeve in this position.
CONSTITUTION: In exchanging the developer, cam 14 is operated with lever 26 and developing unit 12 is swayed to the withdrawal position as shown by chain lines to withdraw sleeve 21 from drum 11. At that time, interlock detection switch 15 is turned off and manual switch 16 becomes effective. Cover 14 is opened, switch 16 is turned on, developing motor 13 is driven, sleeve 21 rotates in the arrow direction, the developer in casing 19 is attached to sleeve 21, scraped down with scraper 23, and drops down from discharge opening 25. After recovery of the developer, unit 12 is restored to the operation state, and fresh developer is supplied from another supply opening, thus permitting exchange of developer without impairing drum characteristics.
