Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform longitudinal and lateral conversion of a character pattern consisting of a K-by-l dot matrix by a pattern memory which extracts the pattern, n by n (less than K and l) bits, in parallel.
CONSTITUTION: A character pattern is represented by 24-by-24 dots. Character pattern memory 1 of 72-by-8 bit constitution is sectioned into blocks M0 to M71 of eight bits. When a character code is supplied to the control circuit to assign 90° conversion, access to memory 1 is attained to extract sequentially blocks M0, M3, M6, ... M21. Simultaneously, they are loaded into shift registers S0 to S7 respectively. Next, one-bit data is outputted from each of registers S0 to S7 by a shift clock. Converted data are stored at converting address A0 of memory 1. Similarly, data to A3, A6 ... A21 can be obtained. In this way, 90° conversion becomes possible with the capacity of each shift register reduced.
