Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce the resistance of a submerged body moving at a high speed zone, by a method wherein the submerged object of a half-submerged vessel, constituted such that a super-structure is installed on an upper portion of the submerged object through the medium of a strut, is narrowed at the middle portion in the longitudinal direction thereof, whereby the submerged object is apparently divided into plural sections.
CONSTITUTION: A submerged object 1 accounting for the great portion of a displacement is positioned under a water surface, the constitution of a half-submerged vessel being such that the submerged object 1 and an upper structure 2 above the surface of the water are joined together through the medium of a strut 3 whose cross-section is formed in a streamline shape. The submerged object 1 is formed such that a middle portion in a longitudinal direction thereof is narrowed, which results in dividing apparently and hydraulically into a front submerged portion 1a and a rear submerged portion 1b. This permits the substantial transfer of the froude number to a low range without a sharp alteration of a displacement of the submerged object, whereby a wave making resistance produced in a high speed zone of the submerged object can be reduced. A steaming performance can thus be improved.
