Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to carry out high speed recording at good energy efficiency by bringing an electric-heat converter into contact or proximity with or to a recording liquid and supplying a short pulse-like signal to the converter to carry out recording. CONSTITUTION:An electric-heat converter 4 is brought into contact or proximity with or to a recording liquid 3 present within a working chamber 2 provided with a discharge orifice 6. A pulse-like signal the half-value width of peak energy of which is within the range of 0.1-500mu/sec is supplied, and the above described liquid 3 is exhausted and sprayed as droplets 7 through the above mentioned orifice 6 in correspondence to the operating force generated therein, and recording is carried out by the droplets 7 on a surface 10 to be recorded. In accordance with the shortening of the pulse width the response in the exhaustion of recording liquid drop is improved, and energy required for exhausting one liquid drop may be small. Therefore, the pulse of shorter width such as less than 500mu/sec is preferable. However, in accordance with the shortening of the pulse width, it is required to increase the voltage value of the pulse and to heat the electric-heat converter 4 in shorter period of time. For this reason, the limit of the pulse width is 0.1mu/sec from the aspect of durability.
