Abstract
PURPOSE:To decrease fuel consumption per unit product without decreasing heat efficiency, by stopping the operation of a blower, and by shutting dampers for secondary air and for a flue after the steel ingot having been heated is drawn off from a soaking pit, then by charging new not steel ingot into the furnace and making the furnace airtight so as to raise the temp. in the furnace. CONSTITUTION:After steel ingot having been heated is drawn off, a blower 10 is stopped, and dampers 11, 14 for secondary air and flue gas are closed so as to make the soaking pit airtight, hereby temp. in the furnace falls gradually. Then the cover 13 is opened in order to charge new not steel ingot, and the cover is immediately closed. The temp. in the furnace is raised by the sensible heat of the hot steel ingot 3 and furnace wall 4 to reach an equilibrium. Just before that time, the dampers 11, 14 are opened and the blower 10 is started so as to cause automatic combustion. After completion of the soaking of the steel ingot 3, combustion is stopped, and simultaneously above described operations are repeated to make the furnace 1 airtight.
