Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the title compound useful as an intermediate of antiviral agents (e.g. 4-homoisotwistane) and perfumery, easily, in high selectivity, by the dehydrative isomerization of a tricyclic spiro-alcohol (novel compound) in the presence of phosphoric acid.
CONSTITUTION: Tricyclo[6.2.1.02,6]undec-2(6)-ene of formula I is prepared in a selectivity of as high as 30W90%, by the dehydrative isomerization of a tricyclo spiro-alcohol of formula II in the presence of phosphoric acid, pref. in a solvent such as n-pentane, at 50W150°C. The tricyclic spiro-alcohol can be prepared by reducing a tricyclic spiro-ketone with aluminum lithium hydride, etc.
