Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the coupling efficiency of optical transmission lines and a light source exciting light signals therein by filling the spacings between a plurality of optical transmission lines with transparent material and enclosing this with a metal body having total reflectivity. CONSTITUTION:Spacings between a plurality of optical transmission lines 2 consisting of fibers are filled and integrated by optically transparent material 4, which is then enclosed by a metal body 1 such as of stainless steel pipe or the like having total reflectivity. At the time when the light 5 incident to the transparent body part (a) propagates while causing total rflection at (c) and (f), is crosses the optical transmission lines 2 at the active regions (b), (d), (e), (g), (h), but since the widths of the active regions differ only by about 2 digits as compared to the propagating light wavelength, part of the light migrates to the active region 2. As a result, when the number of fibers is let n and the inside diameter of the sleeve d, then the coupling efficiency may be considerably improved in the handle fibers of larger n/d, i.e., filled at a higher density.
