Abstract

PURPOSE: To control the dimension of a workpiece of small diameter, by measuring the distance between a grinding wheel and an adjusting wheel at an outlet section while the workpiece is ground.
CONSTITUTION: A pair of measuring heads 1, 1' are provided at the outlet section of the grinding wheel and an adjusting wheel and slidably fitted to a slide plate 6. A sliding member 9 provided with a hold-down metal 7 is fed by a feed screw 10. Contact members 3, 3' of the measuring heads 1, 1' are housed in a long hole 15 opened in a blade of a grinding bed 11 so that the contact members 3, 3' are located in tourch with the grinding wheel and the adjusting wheel. The heads 1, 1' are positioned in the center of a measuring range. The measuring heads are secured by the hold-down metal 7 to set a gap for the finished dimension of the workpiece. When the grinding wheel and the adjusting wheel are rotated, the workpiece is ground with sparks over the blade 14. The dimension of the workpiece is measured by the contact members 3, 3' of the measuring heads 1, 1'. The workpiece is then discharged by a conveyor.
