Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the spreading diameter of opposite-polarity arc and prevent welding defects such as lack of penetration by changing the mixing ratio of shielding gas at the joints of beads.
CONSTITUTION: When the center position of an arc 2 reaches the end part C of a weld bead 3 from the point A on base metal 5, shielding gas 4 is changed from "X" 104 to "Y" 103. Then, the relation of the mixing ratio of CO2 or O2 in the shielding gas 4 becomes X<Y and the spreading diameter D of the arc 2 becomes small. As a result of this, the energy density of the arc 2 increases and the end part C of the weld bead 3 is concentrically heated and melted.
