Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the quick responding capability of a humidity detector and simplify the construction thereof, by designing the detector such that an electric current is applied directly to a ceramic element.
CONSTITUTION: Heating electrodes 9a, 9b are attached to both side surfaces of a ceramic element 1, and connected to both ends of a heating power source 4 through an interlocking switch 8a. Accordingly, when the switch 8a is turned on to apply a voltage, which is higher than a zener voltage of the element 1, to the same element 1, it generates heat by itself by an electric current flowing thereto to dry the moisture adsorbed on the surface thereof. Thus, an initial setting of this humidity detection is completed. When the switch 8a is then turned off, a switch 8b is turned on. As a result, a voltage of a power source 5 is applied to an electrode 2a, element 1, electrode 2b and a loop of an amplifier 6 so that the humidity-resistance variation characteristics of the element 1 are detected. The humidity is then measured by an indicator 7.
