Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve the decomposition yield of diisopropylbenzene dihydroperoxide(DHPO) into resorcin and hydroquinone, by adjusting the moisture content of a D solution to less than a specific value, and by decomposing the solution.
CONSTITUTION: The moisture content of a solution of p-diisopropylbenzene dihydroperoxide (DHPO), formed by oxidizing m- and/or p-diisopropylbenzene, is adjusted to less than Y (wt%) shown in the formula. The solution is then decomposed to give resorcin and/or hydroguinone. In the formula, Cd is the DHPO concentration (wt%) in the solution, and Cc is the concentration (wt%) of (2- hydroxy-2-propyl) cumene hydroperoxide (CHPO) which is an impurity.
EFFECT: Improved reaction rate.
