Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound, an intermediate of pesticides, pharmaceuticals, etc., in high yeild, by the reaction of 1-methylsulfinyl-1-methylthio-2-hydroxyphenyl-ethylene and an alcohol in the presence of hydrogen chloride, using, Zn, Fe or Sn as a catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: A hydroxyphenylacetic acid lower alkyl ester is obtained by the acid decomposition of 1-methylsulfinyl-1-methylthio-2-hydroxyphenyl-ethylene of the formula and a lower alcohol in the presence of hydrogen chloride, using 1W1.5 times mol of a metal selected from Zn, Fe and Sn as a catalyst.
