Abstract
PURPOSE:To determine an obstruction point in an optical fiber, where rays of light are not reflected, without providing signal lines between both of terminal measuring instrumenrs, by simultaneously being propagating rays of light with different wavelength to determine the obstruction point in the optical fiber from difference between the times of the interruption of both of optical signals at a light receiving terminal. CONSTITUTION:Pulse rows with different optical wave-length lambda1, lambda2 are formed by optical modulators 31, 32 according to pulse rows put out from a pulse generator 11 and projected to an optical cable fiber 13 through a wave composer 33. As a result, the velocities of optical pulses being propagated through the fiber 13 in response to the wave-length lambda1, lambda2 due to the dispersion characteristics of the fiber 13. Thus, when difference between the arrival times of the pulse light of the wave-length lambda1, lambda2 at the time of the occurrence of obstruction is detected by a wave divider 34, observing units 15, 23 corresponding to the wave-length lambda1, lambda2 of optical pulses and a comparator 26, which are provided at a light receiving terminal, an obstruction point where rays of light are not reflected can also be determined without providing signal lines between both of terminal measuring instruments by operation based on a dispersion rate previously determined by the fiber 13.
