Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare an acetylene high polymer having anisotropic electrical conductivity and high strength and, useful for electronic elements, etc., by contacting acetylene with a catalyst prepared by dissolving a transition metal compound and an organometallic compound in an aromatic ether at specific concentrations and applying the solution to a solid surface.
CONSTITUTION: (A) A catalyst consisting mainly of (a) a transition metal compound (e.g. tetrabutoxytitanium) and (b) an organometallic compound (e.g. triethylaluminum), is dissolved in (B) an aromatic ether compound (e.g. anisole). The amount of the catalyst is 0.001 mole on the basis of 1l of the solvent. Acetylene is contacted with the standing catalyst solution or with a solid surface coated with the catalyst solution, and polymerized at 0W-100°C to give a high polymer. The polymer is drawn at 100W250°C at a draw ratio of ≥250% under mechanical tension to give a polymer having anisotropic electrical conductivity.
