Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide title glass fibers in which the degree of resin crystallization is increased to a specified value so as to effect unvariable transmission properties for a long period of time by providing a heating area for crystallization in part of the process of cooling and hardening thermoplastic resin layer applied to the surface of optical transmission glass fibers.
CONSTITUTION: Silicone resin, etc. is applied to optical transmission glass fibers to form primary layer of coating thickness of 5W100μm. The coated fibers are passed through a wire sender 1, a distorsion prevention machine 2, and guided into a resin forming-machine 3, where thermoplastic resin such as polyethylene and nylon is applied to form secondary layer of about 300μm in thickness. The fibers are then introduced into a heating area 4 and heated to about 120W160°C to permit the degree of resin crystallization to be enhanced to a specified value, then cooled and hardened, which is wound on winding machine 5.
