Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound safely in high yield, by bringing easily available methyl-pyrazine into conact with ammonia and air as assistant raw materials in the presence of a specific catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: Methylpyrazine (P) is heated to form the gas, which is brought into contact with ammonia and air or an atmosphere comprising them, in the presence of a catalyst consisting of vanadium and molybdenum oxides (V) and (M), preferably at a weight ratio of (V) to (M) of preferably 0.3W1.5:1, more preferably 0.75W1.3:1, at 300W480°C, preferably 350W410°C, to give the title compound. Preferably, the flow ratio of (P):(V):(M) is 7W13g:2000W3500:230W300cc per cc of the catalyst.
