Abstract

PURPOSE:To form a thin cover of a uniform section on the surface of a fiber obtd. by spinning a base material by coating resin onto the fiber surface and immediately spraying gas. CONSTITUTION:Fiber 3 obtd. by heat spinning glass rod 1 in spinning furnace 2 is passed through large diameter dies 4 housing a resin composition to coat the resin onto the fiber 3 surface, and air or inert gas is sprayed from nozzle 10 to blow off excess resin. Coated fiber 3 is then introduced into baking furnace 6 to cure the resin and wound round bobbin 7. By changing the spraying position of nozzle 10, the flow rate and pressure of the gas sprayed, etc. the thickness of the resin coated can be adjusted easily, and a cover with a minimum thickness of about 1mu can be formed.
