Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the accuracy of detecting the position of an iron core shaft by providing a plurality of pairs of the primary and the secondary coils such that the primary coils alternate the secondary coils, around the outer circumferential surface of a casing through the central portion of the interior of which the iron core is moved, parallel-connecting the primary coils, with both ends thereof connected to an AC power source, and measuring the level difference between electric currents flowing in adjacent secondary coils to detect the position of the iron core shaft.
CONSTITUTION: A casing in which an elongated iron core shaft 1 is moved like a control rod moved in a nuclear reactor is provided with a plurality of alternately arranged primary coils 14, 15, 16... and secondary coils 19, 20..., the primary coils being parallel-connected, with both ends thereof connected to an AC power source. A resistor is connected between upper and lower terminals of each of the secondary coils. The lower terminals are connected together with a common wire. A voltage drop in the resistors in adjacent secondary coils is detected by a differential amplifier. For example, when the iron core shaft is located between coils (p), (q), ..., an output current from the differential amplifier between the secondary coils 19, 20 has a curve 26. The position of the iron core shaft can be accurately detected on the basis of a position (r) corresponding to a peak of the curve 26, irrespective of a temperature.
