Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the consumption of power used in cleaning while the deterioration of humidity detecting function is prevented amid and after the cleaning by a method wherein heating action is deviated in energizxation phase to one of two electrodes facing each other forming a humidity sensor element.
CONSTITUTION: The humidity sensor element 1 composed of the first and second electrodes is energized by AC power sourse 10 to detect the humidity and the temperature by a thermistor characteristic. When cleaning, with a switch 16 closed, the power is fed to an electrode 2 by the AC power source 15 by deviating the phase in the energization to the electrode 3 from the power source 10 in terms of time. The electrode 2 serves as a heater and thusm, permits the electrode 3 to reach the specified temperature with the electrode 2 by means of the element 1 lower in the heat/time constant with limited power consumption. This enables cleaning by burning while accurate detection by the element 1 during the time. When the energization to the electrode 2 is cut with the opening of the switch 16 timed for the detection of the specified humidity due to the thermistor action, the electrodes 2 and 3 small in the heat and time constant returns to the normal condition.
