Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable a stable image to be obtained, by setting a latent image to a reference light potential and a dark potential predetermined before a latent image.
CONSTITUTION: Photoreceptor 1 undergoes uniform illumination with exposure lamp 5 other than exposure from imagewise exposure light source 4 before forming a latent image in the electrophotographic method. This uniform illumination light amount is successively stepwise changed with light source 14 or bias light source 15 to measure the dark potential at each step on receptor 1. The formula of relationship between this drak potential and the uniform light amount is obtained and the uniform light amount for obtaining the predetermined reference dark potential is decided by reversely operating this relationship formula, thus permitting a stable image to be obtained by forming a latent image under this uniform light.
