Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to perform several mode processes without increasing the scale of a data collector, by providing a data terminal with a memory of fixed capacity and a method of detecting the volume of stored data approximating to a fixed value.
CONSTITUTION: Each memory RAM of several POS terminals is provided with input data memory region TDS and control register region MR which sets when the unused region of TDS decreases down to a fixed value. With a light load, data collector TC' sends polling signal POLA out to a POS terminal. The terminal sends back a negative acknowledge NAC when no data resides in region TDS and acknowledge ACK when data resides, and collector TC' receives this response and performs normal processing. With a heavy load, collector TC' sends polling signal POLB. The terminal sends back response NAC when no near-end data resides in region MR and ACK and near-end data NE when it is in a near-end state. On receiving data NE, collector TC' allows the data of the terminal to interrupt another process in execution.
