Abstract

PURPOSE: To effect a high ratio desulfurization of a low concentration brine and to byproduce Glauber's salt by a method wherein seawater is concentrated to brine from which sulfate ions are removed in the form of Gluber's salt by refrigeration.
CONSTITUTION: Seawater is concentrated by use of a multiple pipe heater, etc. to provide brine which contains sulfate ions. Such brine is refrigerated so that the contained sulfate ions are precipitated as Glauber's salt which is removed. Even when the brine concentration is low, the method allows a high ratio removal of sulfate ions. A such, the method needs no auxiliary material and effects a highly advantageous desulfurization, allowing reutilization of byproduced Glauber's salt.
