Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:Trisazo compounds of the formula (R is H, methyl; n is 1, 2).
USE: A trisazo dye of the formula is dissolved to form a concentrated solution in a water-soluble polyalkylene glycol, or polyalkylene glycol block copolymer, or their mixture, which dyes paper, cotton, silk, wool, polyamide fiber, leather, etc., brown.
PREPARATION: Anilinesulfonic acid or its diazonium salt is coupled with m-phenylenediamine or 2,4-tolylenediamine at about 1:1 molar ratio under an acidic condition to form a monoazo compound. The resulting compound is added to the reaction mixture resulting from the coupling between a tetrazo compound of o-tolidine and salicilic acid at about 1:1 molar ratio in the presence of lithium hydroxide and lithium carbonate for controlling the pH of the reaction mixture, thus producing the objective compound.
