Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the generation of a pin-hole in a formed magnetic layer by completing approximately foam erasing and gas removal of a magnetic paint by performing a specific vacuum foam removal processing in the adjustment of the water-emulsion system magnetic paint.
CONSTITUTION: First, magnetic powder is scattered sufficiently in water under the existence of a dispersant. Next, the pressure in the system is reduced up to 550mm Hg or less under the agitation of dispersive liquid, and the pressure reduction processing is continued until break of foams disappears. Next, pressure reduction is performed again after the pressure in the system is returned to a normal pressure by blowing organic solvent vapour into the system. After this first-stage vacuum foam removal processing is repeated, water-polymer emulsion is added and scattered to dispersive liquid. The obtained water-emulsion system magnetic paint is subjected to the second-stage vacuum foam removal processing similar to the first-stage processing at a temperature below 40°C desirably. The magnetic paint after foam removal processings is applied onto a substrate and is dried, so that a magnetic recording medium where defects such as drop-out and output fluctuation are cancelled can be obtained.
