Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove malodorous gas such as methyl sulfide efficiently and to keep a high removing performance for a long time, by bringing a mixed gas of malodorous gas with ozone controlled at a low vapor pressure into contact with activated carbon.
CONSTITUTION: The water vapor pressure of a mixed gas of ozone with a malodorous gas to be contacted with activated carbon is controlled at a pressure not higher than 4mm Hg, and the mixed gas is brought into contact with activated cabon while water content of the activated carbon being kept at not higher than about 20wt%. Hereby methyl sulfide contained in the malodorous gas is removed efficiently. The water vapor pressure is controlled, for example, either by passing the mixed gas through a cooler so as to remove the water compulsively to a pressure not higher than 4mm Hg, or by means of moisture-absorbing material such as alumina or silica gel.
