Abstract
PURPOSE: To dry sludge at a low temp. and utilize the dried sludge as very effective fertilizer by heating the former sludge with the heat of condensation of a heat pump to generate steam and heating the evaporator of the pump with the steam.
CONSTITUTION: Activated sludge produced by treating waste water, night soil, etc. is fed into heater 9 and heated at a relatively low temp. of 40W60°C with condenser 3 into which hot gas ejected from compressor 1 is introduced. The sludge is thus dried while being agitated with agitator 10, and the dried sludge is taken out of discharge pipe 13. The hot gas in condenser 3 is condensed and fed to liq. receiver 5. Steam generated in heater 9 enters evaporation chamber 16 through steam pipe 15 to heat internal evaporator 8, where a refrigerant is evaporated with sensible heat and latent heat of condensation. The condensed steam is discharged through drainpipe 17, whereby chamber 16 is evacuated with vacuum pump 18 set in pipe 17, and steam is sucked through pipe 15 to facilitate evaporation in heater 9. The refrigerant gas in evaporator 8 is sucked into compressor 1 and circulated.
