Abstract

PURPOSE: To facilitate ready storage and management of casting sand before molding it by adhering water-soluble paste onto the surface of the sand.
CONSTITUTION: Water-soluble paste is added with dried silica sand and mixed therewith to thus adhere the paste onto the surface of sand particles. Then, the sand particles are thermally agitated to dry and remove water content from the sand. Chilled water or preferably steam or hot water is added to the sand immediately before molding the sand and mixed therewith to thereby provide viscosity at the sand for molding the sand.
