Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce clean gas for energy use, by cooling a crude gas obtained through gasification of a raw material, with an easily vaporizable liquid material to remove impurities, forming a small quantity of waste water.
CONSTITUTION: A raw material containing coal, heavy oil, or their mixture, and an O2-containing gas are fed into the gasifier 2, and gasified with partial combustion. The crude gas is fed to the cyclone 12, heat exchanger 20, and Venturi scrubber 26, and brought into contact with an easily vaporizable liquid material, e.g. liquefied CO2, fed from the conduit 28. The gas is quenched to a temperature as low as possible above the dew point of the steam by the latent heat of vaporization of the material, and the gas containing misty high-boiling tars is passed through the liquid cyclone 32 and the oil scrubber 38 to remove impurities. After removing CO2 and H2S in the acid gas eliminator 48, the gas is brought into contact with water in the CO converter 66 to convert CO into CO2 and H2.
