Abstract

PURPOSE: To set up a converter safely without turning it, by fitting an upper furnance body to to a trunnion ring held horizontally, then by welding the upper and lower furnace bodies with the furnace axis held vertical.
CONSTITUTION: A furnace body 1 is prepared for setting up by dividing it into two parts, i.e., an upper furnace body 3, to which an upper supporting means 2 is secured, and a lower furnace body 5, to which a lower supporting means 4 is secured. To set up the furnace body, a trunnion ring 6 is held horizontally on a stand 7. Then the upper furnace body 3 is placed on the trunnion ring 6, and is fit to the trunnion ring 6 by the upper supporting means with the furnace axis held vertical. Thereafter, the lower supporting means 4 for the lower furnace body 5 is fit upward into the trunnion ring so that the divided end 8 of the upper furnace body 3 is butted against the divided end 9 of the lower furnace body 5, and the ends 8, 9 are welded.
