Abstract
PURPOSE: Low alloy low carbon cast steel for nitriding, obtained by adding Si;0.8W 3.0% in SC37WSC39 low carbon cast steel, simply formed hard nitriding layer.
CONSTITUTION: Low carbon cast steel containing C;0.1W0.3%, Si;0.8W3.0%, Mn<0.8%. Member made of the above steel, is heated at 560W620°C in NH3 gas for 20 hours. Nitriding of the surface of cast steel product is carried out by N2 gas generated by the decomposition of NH3 and hardness is made more than Hv 200. Thus, nitriding layer is formed easily with a simple method.
