Abstract
PURPOSE:To make it possible to detect the shape of a strip, without deteriorating the product value thereof, by detecting the variation in the clearance between the strip and a roller, which is generated by the rotations of the roller having magnets of different polarities alternately arranged in the circumferential direction, with the use of a gap sensor. CONSTITUTION:If a floating roller 8 is turned, there is generated a floating force for a non-magnetic member by the magnetic pole moving effects of a magnet 6, whereas there is generated an attracting force in a magnetic member so that the strip 10 is dislocated in its thickthwise direction. Therefore, when the strip 10 having its shape deteriorated passes above the floating roller 8, more dislocation is generated at a less tensile portion that at a more tensile portion. In other words, more dislocation takes place at the portion having its shape deteriorated and is measured by means of sensors 14 which are arranged in the widthwise direction of the strip 10 so that the position and quantity of the shape deterioration can be measured. Thus, it is possible to detect the shape without damaging the strip.
