Abstract
PURPOSE: To guide an ultrasonic beam into a surface to be inspected by equipping a tire-shaped flaw detector with means for controlling the position of an oscillator so that the angle of the oscillator is made to follow the variation in the angle of the surface to be detected.
CONSTITUTION: A rotor 22 having a built-in oscillator 24 is moved above a test piece 21 while being turned. The oscillator 24 slides along an arcuate guide 28 about a point a. In order the ultrasonic beam may fall upon the point a, there is provided a position controller 27 which is equipped with two free stroke bearings 29. The position of the guide 28 is determined by the contacting condition between the two bearings 29 and the test piece 21. Since the position controller 27 and the guide 28 are connected to a deformed shaft 26 and a shaft 25, the guide 28 can be made coactive by the position controller 27. In accordance with the curved side of the test piece 21, the bearing 29 advances to change the angle of the position controller 27 so that the angle of the guide 28 is also changed through the shaft 26 connected thereto. Thus, the ultrasonic beam from the oscillator 24 can be always concentrated upon the point a.
