Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an arrangement of segment seal, in which projections of a retainer plate held in tight contact with the outer periphery of a seal ring is obtained by assembling a plurality of segmental members into a circular form are inserted into respective grooves formed in coupling portions of said seal ring, whereby it is enabled to improve sealing performance of the segment seal.
CONSTITUTION: Resilient retainer plate 11 is held in tight contact with the outer surface of coupling portions 9, so that the coupling portions 9 and clearances 13 are sealed tightly by the retainer plate 11. Therefore, it is enabled to improve sealingness of the apparatus, as compared with the conventional arrangement in which considerable leakage has been caused from the coupling portions 9 and clearances 13. Further, by inserting projections 12 of retainer plate 11 into the clearances 13, it is enabled to control relative displacement of segmental members 8 themselves and displacement between the segmental members 8 and retainer plate 11 within a certain limited range.
