Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent a device for attracting and separating a sheet from erroneously feeding the sheet by decreasing the attracting force of a sucker when the sheet attracted to the sucker is transferred to a carrier and immediately increasing the attracting force upon attracting of the sheet to the sucker.
CONSTITUTION: When a sucker 3 makes at the attracting surface thereof contact with a sheet 1 at vertical position, a rotary valve 12 is operated to allow the first rotary valve body to shut off communication of the hollow hole 17 of a rotary shaft 16 with an open hole 21 and then allow the second rotary valve body to communicate the hole 17 with a suction port 23 communicating with a vacuum pump 11. Accordingly, a pipe 14 reaches a vacuum as designated by a point D in a graph. When a pipe 13 therefore communicates with the pipe 14, the sucker 3 abruptly increases its vacuum degree from the point A to the point A' in the graph with the result that the sheet 1 is completely attracted to the sucker 3 and transferred over to the carrier 2 (a point C). Then, the hollow hole 4a in a sucker shaft 4 and the pipe 13 are released to the atmosphere, and the sucker 3 is returned to the carrier 2 with the sheet 1 retained.
