Abstract
PURPOSE:To subject the edge of a hot rolled steel belt to a mechanical grinding operation prior to the introduction of the same into a pickling tank thereby to reduce the piclking cost and improve the piclking efficiency. CONSTITUTION:The difference in the pickling ability between the edge part and central part of a hot rolled steel belt increases as the take-up temperature increases. Accordingly, contribution due to the improvement in the pickling ability at the central part of said steel belt becomes remarkable in a high-temperature take-up material. Even in the high-temperature take-up material the pickling ability at the central part is not so different from that in the ordinary take-up material. Accordingly, prior to the introduction into the piclking tank of the steel belt mechanical grinding is applied thereto by means of a grain-containg nylon bruch, a hard metal wire brush or the like in the length of 50 to 200 mm at one side of the edge part under sufficient grinding allowance. The grinding allowance is determined to such a such a degree that an oxidized film remains, which requires 0.8 to 2.0 times, preferably 1.0 to 1.3 times, necessary pickling time based on the necessary pickling time at the central part of said steel belt.
