Abstract

PURPOSE: To lower the knee point of impedance saturation characteristic by making the magnetic flux density of block iron core of the main leg comprising the reactor same as that in usual, and increasing the magnetic flux density of the yokes or side legs through the reduction in their sectional area.
CONSTITUTION: A main leg is comprised by superposing gap insulations 2 and iron core blocks 1 by turns. At both sides of the main leg side legs 3 are secured with the aid of yokes 14 leaving the spaces in which windings are provided. Then, in these spaces windings 5 are wound to form an iron core type shunt reactor. In this arrangement, the sectional area S2 of the yokes 14 at section Z-Z is lowerd to less than a half of the sectional area S1 of the main leg at section Y-Y. By doing so, the magnetic flux density B2 of the yokes 14 becomes higher than the magnetic flux density B1 of main leg, the time reaching to the saturation is shortened and the impedence reduces, thus enabling the knee point to be lowered. In addition, the reduction in sectional area of the yokes does not lead to the increase of vobrations and noise due to that the their primary source is the main leg.
