Abstract

PURPOSE: To protect elements on controlling the variation rate in the rise and fall times of current flowing in the main thyristor and feedback diode by providing a saturable magnetic core between the DC supply and the connection of the main thyristor with the feedback diode.
CONSTITUTION: DC sources E1, E2, a series circuit consisting of the main thyristors MP, MN and reactors L3, L4, and another series circuit consisting of the auxiliary thyristors AP, AN and reactors L1, L2 are connected in parallel, the commutating capacitor C is connected between the connection of reactors L1, L2 and the connection of other reactors L3, L4, the AC load Z is done between the connection of DC supplies E1, E2 and the connection of reactors L3, L4. In the above self-excited thyristor inverter, saturable magnetic cores FP, FN are inserted between the DC supplies and the connection of main thyristors with feedback diodes. By this way, the variation rate in the rise and fall times of current flowing in both the main thyristor and feedback diode can be controlled to prevent the breakdown of semiconductor elements.
