Abstract
PURPOSE:An inexpensive desulfurizing agent for molten pig iron which is capable of giving a desulfurizing effect comparable with that of carbide and also is manufactured by melting, cooling and then pulverizing a mixture of CaO and Al2O3 in a specific proportion. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of 55 to 85wt% CaO and 15 to 45wt% Al2O3 is melted, cooled, and then pulverized into approx. 1 mm or less particles to obtain granular desulfurizing agent. The desulfurizing agent, consisting of 3CaO.Al2O3 matrix crystal and CaO precipitated crystal, has a high reactivity with S present in molten pig iron and therefore takes in high concentrations of S in a short time. Also because the desulfurizing agent does not melt at temperatures below 1500 deg.C, it can perform desulfurizing reaction in the solid state without being melted even if it is charged into an approx. 1300 to 1450 deg.C molten pig iron. Also, its desulfurizing effect and speed are great and fast.
