Abstract

PURPOSE:To simply and readily obtain various propagation characteristics of light artificially without the use of long-distance fibers by connecting a pair of half mirrors and a plurality of fiber groups of different lengths between a pair of lenses provided between input and output side optical fibers. CONSTITUTION:A pair of lenses 3, 4 are opposedly provided on the same axis between an input side optical fiber 1 and an output side optical fiber 2 and a pair of half mirrors 5, 6 are opposedly disposed on the input side between the lenses 3, 4. Further, the fiber group 7 comprising a plurality of optical fibers 8 of different lengths is provided between the output side half mirror 6 and lens 4. When the light from the input side optical fiber 1 emits in pulse form, it attenuates by repeatedly reflecting while partly transmitting between the half mirrors 5, 6, thus producing the pulse train having the linearly reducing envelope on the back side of the half mirror 6. This pulse train deviates with time according to the differences in the length of a plurality of optical fibers 8 and is entered into the fiber 2 by being focussed by the lens 4 and therefore each light is composed to become the pulse of crest form, whereby the characteristics similar to those through long distance propagation may be obtained.
