Abstract
PURPOSE: To make an element small-size and improve a low-temperature operation efficiency of the element by using a fixed pole buried in a solid electrolyte as a standard pole and taking out an electromotive force from the fixed pole and the tested gas contact pole by a specific method.
CONSTITUTION: Fixed pole 2 consisting of metal such as Fe, Mo and Cr is buried in solid electrolyte sintered material 1 such as stabilizing zirconia, and porous metallic electrode 3 consisting of Pt, Pt-Rh, etc., is provided in the tested gas contact side of sintered material 1, and auxiliary electrode layers 4 and 4' which are independent of each other electrically are provided in the tested gas non-contact side of sintered material 1, and fixed pole 2 and auxiliary electrode 4 are connected by lead wire 5 consisting of heat-proof conductive meatl (such as Pt, Pt-Rh), and porous metallic electrode layer 3 and auxiliary electrode 4' are connected by conductive paste 6, thereby forming a solid pole oxygen sensor element. This element is operated at a temperature lower than the conventional air pole type element by approximately 35°C and is operated at a temperature lower than the fixed pole type element by approximately 75°C.
