Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a low-frothing, water-soluble, metal-machining oil having excellent heat stability, lubricity and abrasion-proofing characteristics, composed of an alkali metal salt, ammonium salt and/or (mono-, di- or tri-) ethanolamine salt of a saturated fatty acid. CONSTITUTION:An oil composition composed mainly of (A) an alkali metal salt, ammonium salt and/or a (mono-, di- or tri-) ethanolamine salt of a 8-22C saturated fatty acid containing >= 30% of branched fatty acid having a 1-10C side chain at the alpha-position, and optionally, (B) an alkali metal salt, ammonium salt and/or (mono-, di- or tri-) ethanolamine salt of a phosphoric acid ester obtained by adding 1-30 moles of a 2-4C alkyleneoxide to a 8-22C saturated fatty acid containing >= 30% of branched fatty acid having a 1-10C side chain at the alpha-position, and phosphatizing the addition product with phosphorus pentoxide.
