Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:An N,N'-substituted-paraphenylenediamine derivative of formula I (R is phenyl, cyclohexyl).
EXAMPLE: N-Phenyl-N'-glycidyl p-phenylenediamine.
USE: An excellent antioxidant for rubber. Highly resistant against the repeated exposure to a detergent solution, a dry-cleaning solvent, gasoline, fats and oils, etc.
PROCESS: Reaction of an epihalohydrin with an N-substituted p-phenylenediamine of formula II (R is phenyl, cyclohexyl) in an organic solvent, in the presence or absence of an alkali metal salt or an ammonium salt, affords the compound I.
