Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain Cr plating bath capable of producing excellent plated surface at high current efficiency by a simple operation, by containing trivalent Cr salt, at least one kind of amino acid, carboxylic acid, oxycarboxylic acid and salt thereof, and Al salt, and NH4 salt.
CONSTITUTION: A Cr plating bath is prepared by containing 0.1 mol or saturated concentration of trivalent Cr salt which is a halide or sulfate of Cr; 0.5 to 5 times of mols of trivalent Cr as caboxylic radical concentration of at least one kind of amino acid, carboxylic acid, oxycarboxylic acid, or alkali metal salt, alkaline earth metal salt, NH4 salt, etc. of these acids; 0.1 to 2 mol concentration as Al of Al salt of Al2(SO4)3, AlCl3, etc.; and ≥0.2mol concentration as NH4 + of NH4 salt of (NH4)2SO4, NH4Cl, NH4F, etc., by, if necessary, adjusting pH with ammonia water, (NH4)2CO3, or NH4 salt of said acids. Plating is performed in the bath at pH 5 or under at about 10 to 50°C.
