Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove arsenic and silicic acid present in industrial waste water inexpensively by adding ferrous salt to the waste water containing dissolved arsenic and silicic acid therein, oxidizing ferrous salt and arsenic with an oxidizing agent and adjusting the pH within the predetermined range.
CONSTITUTION: Arsenic ane silicic acid entrained in steam for geothermal electric power generation are dissolved in feed water 1 wihtin a mixer. An oxidizing agent such as H2O2 and ferrous ion are added to the feed water to oxidize at least 40% of the ferrous ion to ferric ion and at the same time arsenious ion to arsenic ion. The pH of the solution is adjusted with an solution of NaOH to 2.5W5. Arsenic and silicic acid together with ferrous salt and ferric salt are precipituted as a co-precipitate 6. If necessary, a coagulant 7 is added to the solution to aggregate the co- precipitate 6 which is then introduced into a settling separator 8. The coprecipitate 6 is separated by means of a dehydrator 10 and the dehydrated liquid is recycled to use. As compared with prior art, the amounts of agents used can be reduced and the amount of the residual arsenic present in the waste water can be reduced to below 0.05 ppm.
