Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound in high yield and selectivity with suppressed combustion reaction at a relatively low temperature, by reacting 4-vinyl-1-cyclohexene and/or ethylbenzene with O2 in the presence of a catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: 4-Vinyl-1-cyclohexene or ethylbenzene or both are reacted with O2 in the presence of a catalyst comprising metallic Pd and X(X is at least one type of Ta, Mo, Cu, Au, In, Tl, Pb, Sb, and Bi) or their compound at an atomic ratio of X to Pd of 0.001W50:1, preferably 0.1W10:1, at 80W250°C to give styrene.
EFFECT: Improved catalyst life.
