Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare powdery immobilized bioactive substance having high safety and enzymatic activity and large specific surface area, by salting out an aqueous solution of a hydrophilic monomer containing enzyme, bacterial cells, etc., solidifying the resulting suspension by cooling, and polymerizing the monomer by irradiation.
CONSTITUTION: A bioactive substance such as enzyme, bacterial cells, etc., is dissolved or dispersed in an aqueous solution of a hydrophilic monomer of formula (X is H or methyl; n is 2W6). An inorganic salt such as sodium chloride, sodium sulfate, etc. is added to the above solution or suspension, and thoroughly mixed to separate the monomer together with the bioactive substance as fine powder. The suspension is solidified at -20W-100°C, and irradiated with visible or ultraviolet light from a low-pressure or high-pressure mercury lamp, or with ionizing radiation such as α-ray, γ-ray, etc. to polymerize the monomer.
