Abstract

PURPOSE:To allow a furnace to fulfill many fuctions by dividing the furnace into a plurality of regions with partition walls and by jetting gas to the gap including a pass line between the walls to isolate the atmospheres in the regions. CONSTITUTION:The furnace is divided into drying region 8 and heating region 9 with partition walls 12, 13. Headers 18, 19 for jetting gas to a pass line between walls 12, 13 are attached to parts of walls 12, 13 in a vertically movable state, and gas is jetted to both sides of a steel strip passing through the line from nozzle tips 18a, 19a. Thus, the evaporation atmosphere near the strip is blown off to isolate the atmospheres in regions 8, 9, whereby reduction of a coated steel strip in region 8 and annealing heating, etc. in region 9 are carried out efficiently.
