Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve the oxidation resistance and fusion loss resistance of a C- contg. refractory material by blending the material with a specified amt. of boron carbide and metallic silicon to increase the bonding strength between C and other fire resistant material by the interaction thereof.
CONSTITUTION: A refractory material consisting of C and other fire resistant material such as Al2O3 or SiC is blended with 28 or less mesh grain size boron carbide 0.4W20% and 28 or less mesh grain size metallic silicon 1W10%. By this method a C-contg. refractory having high strength and long service life is simply obtd. without carrying out a conventional troublesome tar dipping process. It is used as a material for a dipping nozzle, a nozzle and a plate for a sliding nozzle unit, etc.
